This rare copy was published during "wartime" and states on the title page that the materials used in the printing were in accordance within the country's restriction for material conservation during active conflict. No date is given. (I have seen two other books published by G. D. also that have the same statement of materials conservation but they are stamped with dates of 1933 and 1936. WWI or WWII???Not sure!Gossett & Dunlap were the publishers. The book is a no frills book. No pictures, lower quality paper, but it is complete and unabridged with stencils of a horse on the inside of both hardcovers and first pageand last. The pages are very yellowed with the typical mild odor of an old bookstore. The book is in very good condition with a small stain on the front red hard cover of linen. Also a larger spot the the back hard cover. See pictures. Slightly, abraised top and bottom of binding and curled corners. A scrape and slight bend on the front hardboard did not penatrate the linen.Classic story of a wonderful Black Beauty horse, written in the first person of the horse. Very different as the emotions, feelings and love narrated through the author. Squire Gordon, who calls the horse Darkie, looses the horse to hardtimes and the story revolves around the horse and different owners who will determine the situations that the horse will endure.Great story with a tender heart for a young girl who loved him.
