No Reserve for this great example of a American Frontier or Indian sheath knife. It is totaly hand made and has seen a lot of use in the colonial frontier time. The blade is 5 inches long and the deer horn handle is almost 4 inches long making the overall length about 9 inches. The blade was most likely made from file steel. File steel and deer antler are the classic ingredients of the American primitive knife. The knife most likely dates to the first quarter of the 1800's. This is a great example of the earliest of the American Primitive knife. It is made very simply by putting the blade into the deer handle and wrapping it to keep it in. There are no pins as is common in a very early knife. The blade is still very tightly inserted into the anter and can be easily used today. This knife can be refered to as a belt knife or a scalp knife. This is a very facinating and wonderful example of our frontier heritage. It is so interesting to imagine what this knife has been used for during it 200 year life.
